Sledging time!

Jan 9

Dear aegeean,

at the moment the snow is melting and the day is getting longer. This all points to the fact, that it is again time to hold AEGEE-Tallinns general assembly, the local Agora.

The date of the Agora is going to be the 17th of March at 17.30.

At the assembly we will hear the activity report of the board, there will be a chance to propose changes to the statute, hopefully we will be able to ratify the working format of AEGEE-Tallinn and we will also elect the new board, who will serve the aims of the organization till September.

As you know, then the participation is obligatiory for every member of AEGEE-Tallinn, but incase you are unable to participate for some unearthly reasons, then please give your voice to a fellow member. I hope that during this Agora we can continue the tradition of having three votes per person.

The place and the schedule of the Agora will be announced in the near future.

If you have questions conserning the Agora, then feel free to contact me (jyri@aegee-tallinn.ee).

Jüri Kirpu

AEGEE-Tallinn

President

Have you ever wondered how life would be if you lived in Finland or Estonia?

Have you ever wondered what’s so special about the North?

Have you ever wondered what kind of wintertales there are?

Far away one can only see it in photos or hear stories about it, but not experience it. With the EBM in Riga there will be lots of decisions made, but besides work there should also be lots of magic, which one experiences and discovers.

AEGEE-Helsinki and AEGEE-Tallinn are proud to welcome 20 eager aegeeans from all over Europe to participate in the EBM Pre-Event, the FinEst Wintertale (18.-23.2). During the event you will be challenged and tested to your mental and physical limits, so that you could be prepared what AEGEE-Riga has instored for you.

The Pre-Event will be held in two cities both residing next to the gulf of Finland, namely Helsinki and Tallinn. The event starts off in Helsinki on the 18th. During your stay in Finland you’ll get a taste of the Finnish student life, have a chance to explore the city of Helsinki, go sledging, and of course visit sauna. On Sunday the 20th a ferry will take you to the other side of the gulf, Tallinn, where the Wintertale will continue for three more days. In Tallinn you will be introduced to the magical old town, winter sports, dancing and several cultural events. On the 23d the way will finally be clear to Riga, where you will join your fellow board members for the reconstruction of AEGEE-Europe.

At the moment there are 5 positions:

  • represents the AEGEE-Tallinn in various spheres
  • is responsible for organizing and hosting the Agora
  • facilitates board meetings
  • shares the responsibility for the finances of AEGEE-Tallinn with the treasurer

Secretary general

  • Assists the president in various tasks
  • is the acting vice-president in the case of absence of the president
  • is responsible for the information flow within the organization
  • is the minute taker during the Agora and the board meetings
  • is responsible for maintaining a proper documentation
  • keeps account of AEGEE-Tallinn’s members

Treasurer

  • manages AEGEE-Tallinn’s bank account
  • manages payments in accordance with the president
  • accepts money in the name of the organization
  • is entitled to decline payments that do not have the accordance of the board
  • is responsible for compailing the finacial report and the budget

Internal affairs/Human resources director

  • organizes the Local training course (once pro an accademic semester)
  • organizes a recruitment campaign after the local Agora
  • organizes social events for the members of AEGEE-Tallinn at least once a month

European affairs director

  • is responsible for the external communication of AEGEE-Tallinn
  • organizes the communication/relations with the twin local (AEGEE-Groningen)
  • acts as the overseeing body for AEGEE-Tallinn’s international events

Till the Agora there is still time to present propositions for the ad hoc positions within the board, which at the moment are Human resources and European affairs. Besides these two there could be room for public relations, fundraising and IT.

For the candidacy one should send me a cover letter (motivation letter) to jyri@aegee-tallinn.ee till 31 of August. The cover letter should contain:

  • name
  • field of studies
  • age
  • motivation description

When writing the cover letter you can write about what AEGEE means to you, what would you like to change within AEGEE-Tallinn and how can AEGEE influence the life of estonian students. The point of the cover letter is to present a picture of the candidate for members of AEGEE-Tallinn, which will definetly provide a better ground for asking questions before the Agora and also shorten the election process within the general assembly.

Please turn to me in case of questions

Sincerely yours

Jüri Kirpu
AEGEE-Tallinn
President
